On a recent trip to Blenheim we were so pleased to see the seal pups at Ohau point,  north of Kaikoura. This area was severely damaged by the Kaikoura earthquake in 2016 and we wondered if the seal pups would ever return. Luckily they have and although the Ohau stream walk is still closed (as far as I know), the seal viewing site has been upgraded since the earthquake in 2016. There is now excellent parking and viewing access. Located just north of Kaikōura on the state highway, visitors can watch seal families with great photo opportunities from the viewing area. Be prepared to stop for awhile, especially if there are lots of pups, they are so cute!!
