On the way to Lake Heron, Lake Clearwater and Erehwon Station we called in at the Hakatere Station historic buildings in the Ashburton lakes area. The historic building were once at the heart of life in the Ashburton Gorge.
I thought you might like these photos of the 2019 season’s New Zealand sea lion pups around Jacks Bay and the Catlins Lake area. We think there were around 7 but hard to tell as they move around a bit. Anyway we feel very privileged to have been able to watch them grow up over…
LIMESTONE QUARRY – BURNETT QUARRY RESERVE Heading back to Mt Somers from the Ashburton lakes we noticed a small bridge and sign on the side of the road and stopped to investigate. It was a small reserve with a Limestone cottage well worth a visit.
We went to Erehwon Station (Nowhere spelt backwards) a couple of years ago but as you can see by the photos later in the post we didn’t see much as the weather got worse the more inland we traveled.
Blackwater School On our way to the Waiuti mining area near Reefton, we came across an old school and were surprised it was open.
Nelson Creek We thought the camp site at Nelson Creek would be a good spot for a couple of days exploring the surrounding area, which it was but we had no idea what an interesting place it is with a great camp site and walks.
When we left the camp at Nelson Creek (see post) the morning was misty with low cloud and drizzle.
LAKE SUMNER – Off the Beaten Track to… Lake Sumner Lake Sumner is in the Lake Sumner Forest Park as are other lakes such as Loch Katrine and Lake Taylor.
LOCK KATRINE We were on our way to Lake Sumner and planning to stay at Lake Taylor for the night.
Just to prove that any day is a good day to visit Nugget Point. Here are some photos of a recent visit on a cloudy day.
