The popular Piano Flat riverside camping ground is situated in a farmland area with the beautiful Waikaia river running through it.
There are walking tracks and tramps from here plus biking, fishing, hunting and 4WD excursions (see my Whitecoomb road post) This camp is very busy over Christmas, New Year and Easter etc. The last time we were there was the week before Easter this year for five nights. For two night there were about four or five of us spaced out around the large (approximately 2.5km long) camping ground. For the last three nights we had the whole camp to ourselves. The only sounds we heard at night was the river and stags roaring in the hills around us. A great place to stay with plenty to do and beautiful surroundings.

How to get there:
From Gore on SH94 head to Riversdale, turn right towards Waikaia, Piano Flat is abut 20km past Waikaia.
The road is sealed most of the way, the last part is unsealed but a good road.
