Constant Bay – Port Charleston

We stumbled across this beautiful bay by chance while out for a drive, when we were staying in Westport. The bay is not far off the main road, there are a few holiday homes, a picnic area, tracks and the bay to explore.

This beautiful bay, 30 km south of Westport at Charleston, is a great place for a picnic, a walk, or just enjoying the stunning scenery and history. Charleston was a bustling town of hotels, shops, and about 5000 people when the West Coast was in the height of the gold rush more than 100 years ago. The first Hannahs footwear shop opened in Charleston in 1868. It was founded as a gold mining town after a major gold rush in 1867.

The loop walk is 0.8km, with a boardwalk section and wonderful views of the dramatic west coast with cliffs and waves smashing over the rocks. The track is well-signposted, considered an easy route and suitable for all fitness abilities. Access is from the end of Princes Street in Charleston. The information board will give you lots of interesting facts about the history of the bay.

How to get there:

From Westport head south on Buller Road State highway 6 to Charleston, approximately 26km. At Charleston turn right into Princess street and carry on this road to Constant Bay.
