Lake Paringa DOC camp

A small but beautiful camp site and picnic area on the shores of Lake Paringa.

Nestled in the bush on the shores of Lake Paringa

There are some very tall trees around the camp!!

Some of the camp sites have been sectioned off with low fences so there is not a lot of room for a large caravan, we were lucky this one was free. There was some confusion with a sign saying the camp sites must be booked but they weren’t numbered, so we (and some other confused campers) just found a spot and paid at the self registration stand as per usual with DOC camps. There was no point trying to book on line as there was no cell phone coverage 🙂 The camp is very well maintained with short walks around the lake edge and we found it a great place to leave the caravan and go out exploring for the next couple days.

Just behind our campsite was a short track to the river, a great spot to sit in the evening sun.

A beautiful West Coast day

The water is very clear

Beautiful Lake Paringa

This is a great spot to stay for a few days.

The carpark for the picnic area

Picnic tables on the left.

There aren’t many tracks but you can wander around the lake and river.

How to get there:

Lake Paringa Camp is North of Haast. From the south you will pass Lake Moeraki first, approx 32 km on SH 6. Carry on for another 15.7 km to the Lake Paringa campsite.
