Butchers Flat and Pear Tree Flat

If you are looking for a secluded camp site with a beautiful river and great swimming spots and walks try Butchers Flat.

This was the end of another road we went down on our recent trip to the Blenheim area.

There are some good camping spots and toilets.

A short walk down the path to the river.

Just back down the road a few kilometers is Pear Tree Flat – another beautiful spot – Named after two old pear trees which are still standing, it was know to miners as big beach. Big beach was developed along a a major earthquake fault and is the only easy accessible section of the upper river and the hillside above the flat there was a prominent quartz reef.

How to get there – From Blenheim  take SH1 towards Picton, turn left onto Murray Road for 2 km.

Turn left onto SH62 for approx 12km. Turn left into Wakamarina road for approx 15km to reach Butchers Flat.
