Easter – 2016

We decided to visit one of our favorite places for Easter – Papatowai in the Catlins. The DOC camp was quite busy which we hadn’t expected, the last time we stayed there were only about four other groups staying there. The weather was good,  overcast at times but warm enough.

HIGGINS HERITAGE PARK

While staying in Motueka for a few days we were exploring the surrounding area and stumbled on Higgins Heritage Park, might be interesting we thought! And it was – for $5 you can wander around this large complex full of interesting machinery and ‘stuff’.

Hokitika Gorge

On our recent holiday we stayed at Hokitika, a great spot on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island.  We hadn’t spent much time around this area and one of the places we really wanted to visit was the beautiful Hokitika Gorge.

Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre – Blenheim

If you are in Blenheim don’t miss Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre  Knights of the Sky exhibition, featuring Sir Peter Jackson’s own collection of WW1 aircraft and artifacts. You will be amazed as soon as you walk through the door into the semi darkness – the atmosphere is intense,  the figures life like, the mud and…

Denniston – revisited

On our recent holiday we visited Denniston again – Last time we were here it was very interesting but a bit un-loved. The department of Conservation along with other groups have done an amazing job of preservation and providing information for visitors to this historic area.
