Brisbane – What a great looking city!!
On our recent holiday in Queensland we drove from Brisbane to Cairns with stops at Hervey Bay and Airlie Beach. Originally we were going to drive back to Brisbane but decided to fly. We were pleased we’d made that choice as the almost 1800km drive would have been a bit boring doing it both ways, most of the main road is not that interesting after a while! As our flight home didn’t leave until the evening, it also gave us the opportunity of having a day in Brisbane.
We left Cairns on an early morning flight, dropped our bags at the International airport and got the train into the City. There are so many amazing old buildings in the city center, we just walked around all day. We explored several blocks, into and out of (quite quickly) several large shops and shopping centers – too many people for us 🙂
We had lunch at South Bank across the river and were just heading to a a great looking market there when it started to rain. With too many people, all trying to get out of the downpour, we got sick of dodging people and umbrellas so we headed back over the bridge to the City center. A coffee and some ‘people watching’ then it was back on the train to the airport, after a brief but great day in this wonderful city.
I love cities like this with interesting old and new buildings complimenting each other and amongst it all you don’t seem to notice the ugly buildings quite so much 🙂
I won’t pretend to know what most of these building are called or used for but I hope you’ll join us for a walk around Brisbane City. There seems to be lots of building going on in the city. The Casino
